Moon 1979
Inspired by a supermoon, when the moon sits closest to Earth and looms larger in the sky. The term was coined in 1979, which gives this painting its name. Layers of gold leaf form the moon, with messages and symbols scratched into the surface. Around it, lightly textured black sits in stark contrast, the dark expanse of space.
