The artist

Storey

Storey makes paintings that change with the light and stay with you long after you’ve left the room.
Storey is a British artist based on the edge of London, having previously lived in Vancouver and Hong Kong. Her work fuses abstract expressionism, symbolism and pop art. Each painting aims to capture a feeling or a memory, something you want to hold on to.
Her paintings are built in layers, gilded, painted and carved directly into the surface. Storey's goal is to find balance in contrast, matt black against light-catching gold, the grandeur of ornate frames against the raw energy of graffiti layers and organic marks.
Inspired by initials carved into bark, a name scratched into a desk, layers of graffiti, a tattoo that marks a moment before it passes. These are traces, small snapshots of a person and a time, that say I was here.
The gold is not decoration. It is the foundation of most of her work, shifting and reflecting differently depending on the time of day, the season and where you stand. Each painting is a golden memorial to the passage of time.
Storey has been selling internationally since 2020. Most of her collectors have gone on to buy multiple works, something she considers her greatest measure of success.
